Government Efforts for Interoperability in Healthcare
On March 6, 2018, the U.S. government announced a new initiative called MyHealthEData to try and address the issue of interoperability between EHR systems. As part of the initiative, Medicare administration is working on a program called Blue Button 2.0. The goal is to allow beneficiaries secure access to their claims data that they can then share with their doctor (via apps that are under development).
This is a good sign for interconnected health systems, but other organizations will have to adopt interoperable systems of their own to help the 266 million Americans under 65.
