The latest BlizzCon unveiled some notable future plans for the beloved game World of Warcraft (WoW), including a major return and a deep dive into its own history.
Chris Metzen Returns
One significant revelation from the event was the return of Chris Metzen. After a hiatus, he will be taking up the reins once again as the creative director of the franchise.
New Expansions
WoW fans can look forward to three new expansions that were announced at BlizzCon. The game plans to uncover its rich history with the Worldsoul Saga, which will consist of these three expansions.
Worldsoul Saga: War Within
The first expansion to be released in the Worldsoul Saga is War Within, set for 2024. As per the trailer, it seems that Azeroth’s heart is suffering from instabilities that could lead to an explosion, endangering the lives of the people.
War Within will present:
- New territories for exploration and an entirely new playable race.
- The introduction of fresh mechanics such as heroic talents and the ability to form a band of mercenaries.
- The reappearance of remodeled flying mounts from Dragonflight.
- The extension of endgame raid dungeons where the lore unfolds.
Future Expansions
To complete the Worldsoul Saga story, two further expansions are forthcoming. Named Midnight and The Last Titan, each will add to the unfolding narrative of WoW’s history.
The second expansion, Midnight, will bring the spotlight onto Quel’Thalas, the homeland of the Blood Elves, while The Last Titan, the concluding expansion, will see the return of the Titans, entities with cosmic powers.
Updates for WoW Classic
BlizzCon also shed light on the future for WoW Classic. The Cataclysm expansion, anticipated for the first half of 2024, will be made available to its players.
In addition, a fresh discovery season is set for this November, offering a significant shift in class gameplay. To give an idea, players can expect variations like demon hunter tanks and healing mages.
A 20th Anniversary on the Horizon
Next year promises to be an exciting one for WoW, with the game set to mark its 20th anniversary. It’s an impressive milestone and a testament to the enduring popularity of the game that started it all.
